DescriptionEdit

Often considered the starting point for any Steampunk outfit, goggles are not "required," but they are certainly a staple of the genre. Pre-made goggles can be found at several online stores, but where's the fun in that? The cheaper, and most would say better way to go is to fashion your own unique pair from common, easy to find items.

No steampunk outfit is complete without a pair of creative goggles to bring it all together. There are many styles, colors, and types of goggles made of leather, metal, glass, ribbon, or other materials.

Aviation goggles and blowtorching goggles are among the most popular, though goggles may be incorporated into glasses as well (see Doctor Steel on the Steampunk wiki for example).

Supplies NeededEdit

Supplies will vary, but typical items might include:

  • Leather -- leather (or faux-leather) items such as jackets and purses can be found at thrift stores very cheap, and used for a number of Steampunk themed items. Jackets are generally the best way to go since you will have plenty of scrap left over to use on other items.
  • Metal rings, screws, misc. "cosmetic" metal items -- whatever you may have lying around, these items will be added to give the goggles a unique "flavor" that will be to your personal taste.
  • Plexiglass -- Hardware store -- often available in different colors to choose from according to lens color preference.
  • Plumbing coupler -- Hardware store
  • Small buckle -- another thrift-store item, shoes or purses tend to be the best bet.
  • Waxed sinew -- from craft store or leather supplier

ToolsEdit

  • Dremel with cutting wheel
  • Jigsaw
  • Leather punch
